mParivahan Citizen Login & Services: 2026 Guide

When people search for mParivahan citizen, most are not looking for the mobile app. They want the Citizen Services section of Vahan 4.0 — the public login on the Parivahan portal where a vehicle owner can register, pay road tax, download an RC, or track an application without standing in an RTO queue. This guide explains how that login works, who needs it, and what you can do once you are in.

What “mParivahan Citizen Services” means

Vahan 4.0 is the centralised vehicle database built by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). It connects every Regional Transport Office (RTO) in India and runs alongside Sarathi, the driving licence system. Both sit under one Parivahan Sewa account.

“Citizen Services” is the public-facing layer of that system — separate from the officer login used inside RTOs, and separate from the NextGen mParivahan app. Picking the right door saves the most time:

• Vahan Citizen Services (vahan.parivahan.gov.in/vahanservice/) — transactions like road tax, transfer of ownership, and duplicate RC.
• Know Your Vehicle Details (the NR e-Services citizen login) — RC and owner lookups.
• mParivahan app — carrying your virtual RC and DL on a phone.

Vahan 4.0 citizen login: two levels of access

Basic search — no login needed

Checking a vehicle’s registration details, insurance status, or PUC validity is open to everyone. You enter a registration number and captcha, nothing more. No account is required for these read-only lookups.

Full services — login plus Aadhaar

Anything that changes a record — paying tax, transferring ownership, applying for a duplicate RC — needs a citizen account and, in most states, Aadhaar authentication (eKYC). Where a service is marked contactless, eKYC replaces the RTO visit entirely. Non-contactless services (fitness, certain alterations) still require a visit to the RTO with documents after you apply online.

Parivahan citizen registration: create your account

Registering takes a few minutes and needs a mobile number and email ID.

1. Open the citizen login page and choose Create Account (or Register as a new user).
2. Enter your mobile number and email ID, then tap Generate OTP.
3. Enter the mobile OTP and the email OTP, then verify.
4. Add your name and set a strong password.
5. Submit. The same credentials then work across Vahan and Sarathi.

Use a number linked to your Aadhaar — the portal relies on it for OTP verification during services.

Check vehicle details through citizen login

Once signed in, open Know Your Vehicle Details, enter the registration number, and view the make, model, fuel type, registration date, and insurance and PUC validity. Pay road tax online through Citizen Services

Road tax is one of the most common reasons people log in.

1. On the Vahan citizen homepage, select your state and RTO, enter the registration number, and choose Pay Your Tax.
2. Verify with the OTP sent to your registered mobile.
3. Select the tax mode — quarterly, yearly, or lifetime, depending on your vehicle.
4. Review the calculated amount and pay through the e-GRAS payment gateway using UPI, net banking, or card.
5. Download the receipt.

The Vahan database usually reflects payment within 24–48 hours. If money is deducted but the status still shows pending, do not pay again — open the Verify Payment Status tab and wait for the gateway to confirm. Vehicles crossing state lines pay separately through the checkpost tax module, and older vehicles attract Green Tax at renewal.

Track your application status

Every service generates an application reference number. Enter it on the Know Your Application Status page to see the current stage, pending actions, and expected completion. Keep the number until your RC or receipt arrives.

Common citizen login errors and quick fixes

• “403 Forbidden” or the page will not load — turn off any VPN and switch from corporate or hotel WiFi to mobile data.
• “No records found” — your mobile number may not be updated at the RTO, or the vehicle predates full digitisation and still sits in physical RTO ledgers.
• Server errors during the day — Vahan load peaks between 11 AM and 2 PM. Try early morning or late evening.
